DIAMOND BANK MD, ALEX OTTI SET TO BECOME NEXT ABIA GOVERNOR AS THE BANK SUFFERS SERIOUS CRISIS…
At last, the real reason why Diamond Bank, a new generation bank in Nigeria has been engulfed in too many controversies, allegations and counter allegations, lately, has been discovered. Recall that penultimate week, some contract staffers of the bank took to the streets of Lagos to protest against an alleged unfair treatment meted out to them by their employer, the workers claimed that despite the fact that taxes were constantly deducted from their salaries, there were no hard facts to back up such payments alongside several other allegations of fraud that rocked the bank in recent times. According to feelers emerging into our ears, Mr. Alex Otti, the Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc is allegedly plotting to become next governor of Abia State. Feelers reaching us have it that he now pays more attention to the governorship project; even sometimes at the detriment of his bank job.
A source who claims to be in the know informed us that Otti enjoys the blessings of the incumbent governor, Chief Theodore Ahamefula Orji, which explains why he is pursuing his ambition with vigour and so much vitality. Besides working underground at the moment to actualize his dream, creating a robust image of him in the eyes of the people has equally begun. Two of these moves that readily come to mind are his recent conferment with an honorary doctorate by the University of Nigeria Nsukka and also his decoration as the Banker Of The Year by Prince Emeka Obasi’s Business Hallmark Newspapers. Other media stunts are also daily being pulled for him, the reason he’s now in the media more than before.
Hitherto an Executive Director with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, the first class graduate of the University of Port-Harcourt (Economics) was made the MD/CEO of Diamond Bank in March 2011, following the exit of the former MD, Mr. Emeka Onwuka. He began his banking career with the defunct Nigerian International Bank Ltd. From there he moved over to Nigerian Intercontinental Merchant Bank, the United Bank for Africa, First Bank and now Diamond Bank. One of the staffers in their Corporate Affairs Department whom we spoke to on Thursday, January 31, 2013, Tobechukwu Okoli told us that he was not authorized to speak on the matter when contacted.
