Guinness Nigeria MD, Seni Adetu Steps Down Over of 2yr Poor Performance.
The helmsman at brewery company, Guinness Nigeria Mr Seni Adetu leaves his office at the end of the month- October 2014.
This development comes in the midst of dropping profit for the past two years societynowng.com learnt.
Mr Adetu has been in the saddle as Managing Director for two years and half.
According to information obtained by The Gist Plus Magazine from daily newspaper, Guinness
Nigeria’s performance compared to competitors for the past two years.
The reputable publication categorically stated in a report penned by Akinpelu Dada
|
|
‘Although the company has remained profitable, its profits have, however, been on the decline.
Although
the company’s revenue rose by four per cent in the financial year ended
June 30, 2013, its profit before tax and profit after tax fell by 17
per cent to N17.009bn from N20.383bn and N11.864bn from N14.215bn a year
earlier.
Its
basic earnings per share and fully diluted earnings per share were both
down by 18 per cent to N793 from N964 in the same period.
‘The
performance did not improve the year after as the financial year ended
June 30, 2014 saw its revenue dip by 11 per cent to N109.202bn from
N122.46bn. Its profit before tax fell by 31 per cent from N17.009bn to
N11.681bn, while its profit after tax declined by 19 per cent to
N9.573bn from N11.864bn.
The basic earnings per share and fully diluted earnings per share declined further by 20 per cent to N636.
Despite
the drop, the company has continued to pay dividends to its
shareholders. It paid N10.5bn, representing N7 per 50 kobo ordinary
share for the year ended June 30, 2013, and declared a payment of N3.20
for the year ended June 30, 2014, subject to the approval of its
shareholders at its Annual General Meeting scheduled for November 13.’
The report went on to deliver an ominous verdict
‘The company’s shares have also declined significantly in price this year.’
In
his defence, Adetu who held the positions of Managing Director Guinness
Ghana Breweries Limited and East African Breweries Limited before his
current position had attributed the situation to investments made by the
company in line with growth plan.
And the ongoing drop in revenue as ‘temporary’.
According
to information obtained Adetu’s exit will be formalise at the upcoming
Board of Directors meeting scheduled for November.
The gravity of his situation is however apparent in circumstances surrounding his next move.
While
a replacement - John O’Keeffe- as been announced before he official
leaves office, Adetu’s future at the multinational organisation is
listed as ‘will be the subject of a further announcement’.
Company
statement on the issues further revealed ‘Adetu will report to Nick
Blazquez, President, Diageo Africa and Asia, starting January 2015’
It
is however instructive to note that Adetu attempted to arrest company’s
sliding performance with the introduction of variety of products aimed
at muscling into competitors growing hold of the market.

Female Student Of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Goes Missing After Leaving club With Man
A 300level English Language
student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Annabel Nzubechukwu Edeh, has not
been seen since she left a night club with an unknown man many weeks
ago in Awka, Anambra state.
Annabel had gone to the night club with friends on September 17th and as the group of girls prepared to leave, Annabel told her friends she was in need of money so would go home with a guy she’d met at the club and would return to school the following morning. It’s been 6 weeks and Annabel hasn’t been seen.
Read the full story as told my Oluchukwu Igwe, a 500l Chemical Engineering student of same school.
They were six girls, who went to Lounge 24 Gaga, a nightclub in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on September 17. They are Calista, Uju, Lovelyn, Ada, Chika and Annabel. All of them are friends and live close to one another. When they returned to their hostels the following morning, one of them – Annabel – could not be found.
Where is Annabel? This was the question cla’s’smates of Annabel Nzubechukwu Edeh could not answer. The 300-Level English Language and Literature student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka has not been seen anywhere, 43 days after she went to the night club with her friends.
Was she kidnapped? Is she dead? These are some of the questions being asked by her distraught family members and friends. She is the only girl in a family of three.
Annabel, 24, a native of Enugu State, was last seen on Wednesday, September 17 evening, when she left her Paradise City Hostel in Iyiagu Estate, Awka.
When she was leaving the club, Annabel reportedly left at midnight with a guy she met at the club. That was the last time she was seen.
Annabel’s friend and hostel mate, who simply gave her name as Ifeoma, said after clubbing, the girls decided to find a place to sleep before returning to their hostels. But Annabel, she said, told her friends she wanted to go with Mmiri, a male acquaintance, she met at the club. She was said to have told her friends that she was in need of money, which could have informed her decision to go away with the guy.
When she did not return in the morning, it was learnt that Ada and Chika called Annabel’s phone but were disappointed to hear a male voice claiming to have found the phone on the ground and asked the ‘owner’ to come for it.
Ada and Chika, it was gathered, retrieved the phone and contacted Annabel’s elder brother, Ifeanyi, who reported the matter at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.
CAMPUSLIFE learnt that Ada and Chika were detained for alleged complicity but were later released on bail.
When contacted on the phone, it was learnt that Mmiri claimed Annabel left his house at 3:30am when she refused to enter his room.
But, after the conversation, Mmiri reportedly switched off his phone and stopped going to a popular bar, where he drinks with his friends. He is nowhere to be found.
Our correspondent’s efforts to speak with Annabel’s friends she went to the nightclub with were futile. All of them declined to comment on the issue.
Annabel’s roommate, Ukamaka, gave an account of what happened when she spoke to CAMPUSLIFE on telephone.
She said: “Annabel told me she was going to the club that evening. Her friends, Ada and Chika, waited in the compound till they were joined by their other friends. I had a premonition of the incident in a dream I had the previous night. I told her not to go to the club but she refused. When the other three girls arrived, they all left together. When she did not return in the morning, I called her line but nobody picked. Later, a man claimed he found it.”
Asked to describe the kind of person Annabel is, Ukamaka said that her roommate is a good Christian and hardworking, saying Annabel is a good tailor. “I believe Annabel is a victim of circumstance,” Ukamaka said.
Ifeanyi said his family remained devastated by the incident. “We are devastated at the moment. When I received the news, I travelled from Onitsha to Awka to report the matter at the police station. The matter is still being attended to at SCID and “B” Division. We have even gone spiritual to seek God’s help to find my missing sister. Our Dad is late but mum is highly disorganised.”
Ifeanyi said the matter had been reported to the UNIZIK management.
When CAMPUSLIFE visited Annabel’s mother in Onitsha, she fought back tears as neighbours consoled her. She said: “I warned my daughter to stay clear of bad friends, but she would not listen. When she was admitted in a hospital a few months ago, my spirit never accepted the kind of girls who visited her. Now, they have done their worst. I can’t see my daughter, now. Where is my only daughter? Annabel was seven months in my womb when my husband died.”
Mrs Edeh said she had consulted a prophet, who confirmed to her that her daughter is alive but held captive somewhere. She claimed that the prophet informed her that it was Annabel’s friends that facilitated her ‘abduction’ and threatened to sue them if her daughter did not return within days.
She added: “All I am asking is the safe return of my daughter. I have no other girl. If she was kidnapped, those holding her would have called us. I am confused. We are only praying to God and hoping that she returns home safe and alive. I am pleading with anyone, who knows her whereabouts, to give useful information that can help us to locate her.”

Ogun State Deputy Governor Exposes Gov. Amosun
All is definitely not well between
the first two citizens of Ogun State if this letter which was obtained by Punch
yesterday is anything to go by. The Ogun State Deputy Governor accused his
immediate boss of ‘maltreatment’ and abandoning his office even though he is
still very much in power. His official car has broken down, the electricity in
his immediate house where he lives with his family disconnected, his vacation
money withheld, Government owing him his pocket money for two months now and
the list goes on. It’s quite a touching
letter, or do we say I am just an emotional person? Please read the letter
obtained by Punch after the cut.
“During this period, one of my
pastimes was reading inscriptions on cars and buses to amuse myself. In 1978, I
witnessed a fatal accident near a big tree at Alakia Junction in Ibadan
on the way to Ile-Ife involving a white Peugeot 504 station wagon. Nearly
everybody in the car died; shockingly there were several amulets hung over the car that had the word “I shall
not return” boldly inscribed on both sides. Unfortunately, it did not return.
I therefore conclude that we all must fear God.”
“My governor, as I am writing to
you, the feeding and out-of-pocket allowance of the deputy governor for the
months of September and October 2014, as well as the monthly sundry expenses
for the months of September and October 2014 are yet to be paid.”
Adesegun claimed during this
year’s Eid-el-Kabir and Eid al-Fitr festivals, funds were released to government functionaries except him and his
aides.
He said, “Last year, in my letter
to your good self on the affairs of the state, I concluded by reminding you
that at a meeting held in February, 2011 at Alhaji Rafiu Ogunleye’s house,
while you were the governorship candidate of the ACN, you called me aside and
promised me that I will enjoy my tenure as your deputy but since then I have
not felt the benefit.
“I write to say that rather than
improving, the situation is worse.’’
Adesegun also alleged that seven
months ago, electricity supply to his official residence was cut off “because
the state government owed the then Power Holding Company of Nigeria.”
He said he had had to spend an
average of N30,000 daily on diesel to provide electricity for his residence.
The deputy governor wondered why his lodge was not initially
connected to the state mini-power plant even “when it is on record that several
government premises, including private residences and organisations enjoy power
supply from the plant.’’
He said, “I informed you
personally (and severally) during the State Executive Council meetings,
requesting necessary action from the appropriate quarters. Up till now, I am
still living in darkness.
“Of course, your Excellency knows
that till date, I remain the deputy governor in Nigeria without a portfolio, in
spite of entreaties made to you from various quarters. Worse, several attempts
made by me for the office of the deputy governor were rebuffed by your good
self. And I keep wondering why this is so.”
Adesegun also alleged that while
the July 2014 monthly running costs of ministries, departments and agencies in
Ogun State were duly paid, that of his office was withheld.
He added, “Another very relevant
issue is my official car. The engine knocked in December last year. Your
Excellency will recollect that you were formerly using the car and that it was
when you rejected it that it was transferred to me. So, when it had problems, I
thought you will appreciate and understand my plight, rather you ignored me.
“I had cause to remind you many
times, but nothing was done. I resorted to using my personal car as back-up
even when I was aware that you were giving vehicles, including Custom-made
bulletproof vehicles to others. It was when a Good Samaritan bought a Tundra
Truck for me that you deemed it fit to send a Toyota Prado XL V4 engine to me
in late August.
“My convoy of old vehicles break
down intermittently when travelling. On numerous occasions, we have had cause
to stop while on a journey to effect repairs on vehicles . Obviously, these
vehicles are to be changed every two years under best practices, even when
newly bought. These vehicles in my convoy were used by the last administration
and transferred to me.
“Your Excellency may also note
that the fund you approved for my vacation with some members of my immediate
family and two aides in August 2014 is yet to be paid. Please recall that I
discussed the vacation with your good self in May, and you graciously conceded
that I should forward a memorandum in June, only for it to be approved in
August.
“Despite your approval, the fund
was not released. I made several spirited efforts to no avail. It got to a
stage that I was being bounced between you and the Commissioner for Finance. I eventually
proceeded on the leave without collecting a dime.
“I am therefore constrained to ask
if the non-payment of these allowances is as a result of the state government
not being able to meet her financial commitments. Or is the state financially
bankrupt that it cannot meet its responsibilities.
Adesegun asked the governor to
fear God and ended his letter with a
warning : Amosun’s second term bid may fail.
He said, “Your Excellency, while
writing this letter, my thoughts race to
my university days in Ile-Ife, Osun State where I joined a group of bikers
travelling around the country out of youthful exuberance.

All Ndokwa Hotels Shut Down by Lagos Govt
Going by the information gathered by The Gist Plus Magazine, all hotels owned by the popular Delta state born
businessman simply called Ndokwa, located in Lagos state have been
closed down. The incident that occurred on penultimate week left over 40
hotel buildings belonging to the renowned hospitality businessman shut
down.
Sources revealed that Lagos State Building Control Agency was forced to shut down the hotels, following an anonymous report that Ndokwa uses sub-standard materials to construct his hotel buildings.
Following the collapse of hotel building in Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), which took the lives of over 100 people, Ndokwa who rates as one of the biggest hospitality businessmen in Lagos was subjected to test.
Subsequently, it was discovered that his hotel buildings are constructed with sub-standard materials, and to avert disaster, the buildings were all locked down. We could not gather if the buildings were marked for demolition.
Sources revealed that Lagos State Building Control Agency was forced to shut down the hotels, following an anonymous report that Ndokwa uses sub-standard materials to construct his hotel buildings.

COSON Endorses KSB for Lagos Assembly in 2015 Elections
Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has announced that it
is throwing its weight solidly behind the aspiration of its frontline member,
Kenny St. Best (KSB) as she vies for a seat in the Lagos State House of
Assembly to represent Ikeja 1 Constituency under the All Progressives Congress.
This was made known at a heavily attended press conference held at the
society’s head office in the Opebi area of Lagos early in the week.
COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji said that he wanted to make it clear that COSON does not support any particular political party as its members all over the country can be found in APGA, APC, Labour Party, PDP, etc. He said however that COSON is fully supporting those candidates who regardless of party show that they are conscious of the desires and aspirations of the Nigerian creative community and are poised to make policies that will harness the limitless creative potentials of Nigerians. He said that such persons will work with the creative community and deploy the nation’s overwhelming comparative advantage in music, movies, broadcast content, fashion, etc to build a robust economy in which the Nigerian youth can comfortably find jobs and find fulfillment.
Said Chief Okoroji, “with the rebasing of the Nigerian economy, it has finally been acknowledged that entertainment is adding meaningfully to Nigeria’s GDP. What we have seen so far however is the tip of the ice berg. One of our key objectives is to make Lagos the entertainment capital of Africa with a bustling 24 hour a day economy with active nightclubs, restaurants, concert venues, carnivals, production centers, fashion shows, gaming establishments, etc. This will fuel a travel and tourism boom never seen in this region and create enormous jobs and wealth for our citizens.
‘’That is why I wish to make it clear that COSON is fully supporting the candidacy of Desmond Eliot, 9ice, Tony Tetuila, Kate Henshaw, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Julius Agwu and others with entertainment backgrounds. They understand our aspirations for the Nigerian nation and speak our language. They will join the likes of Richard Mofe Damijo and Tony One Week who have served in political positions without blemish’.
According to the former President of PMAN, COSON is
endorsing the candidature of KSB ‘because she is insistent, consistent,
resilient, committed and passionate. KSB has three solid academic degrees. She
has substantial management experience. She is determined to create a better
tomorrow for Nigerian youth. I have worked with her. She is someone who will
not let you down. Whatever she believes in she stays with. She and the others I
have mentioned are not running on their own. They are representing a very large
interest group with a strong voice. We hope that each of the political parties
will treat each of these representatives of the creative community with the
respect we deserve’
Highlighting her plans for her constituency, KSB noted that
during her tenure she will work tirelessly to ensure that the dream of Lagos
State becoming the entertainment capital of Africa materializes. She stated
that she will also work hard to address issues concerning women, children,
education and the less privileged.
Wake Up Call To Mr Nanle Dashan, Plateau State Commissioner of Education
This is a message received from The Gist Plus Magazine reader in Plateau state. It reads:
"This school belongs to Plateau state government. It owes food contractors four million naira. There has not been light for the past three years. Unfortunately the students can only communicate when there is light. The school buildings have no doors, no louvres and net. It houses students from nursery to senior secondary school. The question is has the commissioner of education Mr Nanle Dashan visited this school? I think the governor himself should visit the school to see things for himself. I think baba should not send a delegation on this very important issue. Pls sir cover the nakedness of this school and the state."

Federal Govt. Drags Coca-Cola, NBC , Chief Executives To Court:
The Federal Government has dragged the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited and Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and their Chief Executives before a Federal High Court in Abuja for criminal breach of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Act.
Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, in the charges filed before the court, has preferred a one-count charge against NBC and its Managing Director and a two-count charge against Coca-Cola Nigeria limited and its Chief Executive, making them liable to jail terms ranging from three to five years, if found guilty.
The Federal Government in the charge against NBC and its Managing Director, Mr. Ben Langat, by the Director, Public Prosecutions of the Federation on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federation, alleged that the two accused persons have committed an offence by violating the Orders of the Consumer Protection Council by “deliberately failing, refusing and/or neglecting to comply with the Council’s Orders duly made and served on you and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21 of the Consumer Protection Council Act, Cap C. 25, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section”
In the first count of the two-count charge against Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and its Managing Director, Mr. Adeola Adetunji, the government alleged that the two accused persons have committed an offence by refusing to “attend the hearing of the Consumer Protection Council held in Abuja in relation to investigation of violation of product quality standard under the Consumer Protection Council Act after Summons was duly issued and served on you and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 of the Consumer Protection Council Act Cap C. 25 of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section.
Coca-Cola and its Chief Executive, as in the case of NBC, were also charged for violating the Orders of the Council by deliberately refusing to comply with the Order duly made and served on them, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 21 of the Consumer Protection Council Act, Cap C. 25, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section.
The two criminal cases have been listed before Justice E.S. Chukwu of the Federal High Court 8, Abuja and a date is yet to be fixed for the hearing of the cases.
CPC had earlier this year found NBC and Coca-Cola culpable following its findings from the administrative panel set up over a consumer complaint regarding two half-empty cans of Sprite manufactured by Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited under the license and authority of Coca Cola Nigeria Limited.
The Council’s Director General, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, had at a media briefing soon after the conclusion of the investigation, stated that while NBC cooperated by providing information to the administrative panel of investigation, Coca-Cola refused to attend and testify.
Mrs. Atoki disclosed that the panel, after an extensive investigation, substantiated the allegation of product defect and a violation of the Consumer Protection Council’s Act based on which several recommendations were made and Orders thereto issued to Coca-Cola and NBC.
According to her, CPC, as part of the recommendations, ordered Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Bottling Company to subject their manufacturing processes to its inspection for a period of 12 months to ensure compliance with laid down safety standards and regulations, while ordering compensation for the consumer/complainant.
Additionally, Coca-Cola and NBC were also directed to formulate a shelf-life policy for their products; to review their Consumer Grievance Resolution Policy; supply chain management policy, product traceability policy; and to present written assurances that they will refrain from a continuation of any conduct which is detrimental to the interest of consumers.
