A documentary film about the straightforward and
engrossing biography of late Afrobeat King, Fela Anikulapo Kuti produced
by Academy award winner Alex Gibney titled ‘Finding Fela’ will premier
today at the New Afrika Shrine, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria.
The documentary film which is billed for cinema release across the
country on Friday, 17 October, 2014, was screened to a selected audience
at Silverbird Cinema, Victoria Island, Lagos during the week.
The premiere is a prelude to this year’s edition of Felabration expected to run from 12-19 October.
Producers
of ‘Finding Fela’ said the documentary tried to recapture the story of
Fela’s life, his music, as well as his social and political importance.
Gibney further
said the documentary film encapsulates revealing interviews from family
members and cronies, including Femi Kuti; Yeni Kuti; Seun Kuti; Bill T.
Jones; Jim Lewis; Rikki Stein; Lemi Ghariokwu and Queen Kewe
Anikulapo-Kuti, among others.
The film had its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on 17 January.
