The daughter of the late Kwara State political
icon and former senator representing Kwara central senatorial district
in the National Assembly, Senator Gbemisola
Rukayat Saraki, yesterday declared her intention to seek the
governorship position of the state on the platform of Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in the next general election. She had contested the last
governorship election on the platform of the Allied Congress Party of
Nigeria (ACPN) but lost to the incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji
Abdulfatah Ahmed.
She later returned to the PDP which she left when his brother, Senator Bukola Saraki dumped PDP for APC.
However, Gbemisola Saraki in a letter of intent written to the state
chairman of PDP, Hon. Iyiola Oyedepo, in Ilorin dated October 6, a copy
of which was made available to journalists in Ilorin yesterday, said she
was contesting for the plum position of the state so as “to lead the
state out of its present state of hopelessness and stagnation.”
