The international break is upon us once
more, with players from all levels heading off to represent their
respective countries in European Championship qualifiers, African Cup of
Nations qualifiers and friendly matches. Here, the official Chelsea
website brings you up to date with which players will be away…
Both Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard have been called up by Belgium, who play Andorra on Friday and Bosnia & Herzegovina next Monday in European Championship qualifying. Courtois went to hospital during our Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday for precautionary tests on a head injury. Those tests came back all clear. He was treated for a minor cut to his ear and was released from hospital. He is expected to report for international duty this week.
Petr Cech, who replaced Courtois at the weekend, has been named in the Czech Republic squad for their qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan. The game against Turkey takes place in Istanbul on Friday, with the second match to follow in Astana next Monday.
England face San Marino at Wembley on Thursday and Estonia away on Sunday, with Gary Cahill part of Roy Hodgson’s squad for those matches.
Loic Remy scored the winner for France against Spain during the last international break, and the striker has been called into their squad for matches against Portugal, on Saturday, and Armenia next Tuesday. France qualify automatically for the competition as hosts, meaning there will be no points awarded for the matches they are involved in during qualifying.
Andre Schurrle is part of the Germany squad as the World Cup winners prepare for matches against Poland on Saturday and Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
Serbia are also in Euro 2016 qualification action, playing Armenia at home on Saturday and Albania away next Tuesday. Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic are both in the squad.
Spain opened their campaign with a 5-1 win over Macedonia, and they will hope to build on that result when they face two consecutive away matches, first against Slovakia on Thursday and then against Luxembourg on Sunday. Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta have all been named in the squad.
John Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo are part of the Nigeria squad for their African Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Sudan. The first of those matches takes place on Saturday, with the second to follow on Wednesday. Victor Moses has withdrawn from the squad through injury.
Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has been named in the Egypt squad as they face a double header against Botswana. The first game is away, on Friday, with the home fixture to come next Wednesday. Egypt are currently bottom of the group having lost their opening two matches.
Bertrand Traore, currently on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, has been named in the Burkina Faso squad for their matches against Gabon.
Christian Atsu, on loan at Everton for the season, is part of the Ghana squad for their games against Guinea. The first match takes place on Saturday, with the second to follow next Wednesday.
Three of our Brazilians – Filipe Luis, Oscar and Willian – have been named in their squad for two upcoming friendlies. Dunga’s side face Argentina in Beijing on Saturday, before taking on Japan in Singapore next Tuesday. Ramires misses out through injury.
A number of our younger players have also been called up for international duty.
Lewis Baker has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the first time for their Euro 2015 play-off against Croatia, to determine which team progresses to next summer’s finals in Czech Republic.
Baker is joined in the squad by Patrick Bamford, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, while Matej Delac, Mario Pasalic and Stipe Perica, currently on loan at Arles-Avignon, Elche and NAC Breda respectively, are part of the Croatia squad. The first game takes place at Molineux on Friday, with the second leg scheduled for next Tuesday.
Kurt Zouma, who scored a debut goal for the Blues in our Capital One Cup win over Bolton, has been named in the France Under-21 squad for their play-off games against Sweden. The first leg takes place in Le Mans on Friday, with the return in Halmstad next Tuesday.
Elsewhere in the play-offs, Nathan Ake is part of the Netherlands squad for their two games against Portugal, while Andreas Christensen has been named in the Denmark squad for their matches against Iceland.
